Charles Urbach’s Colored Pencil Workshop

This Boskone workshop lasts about 2 hours. In the first 1-hour class our Guest Artist Charles Urbach describes the materials and discusses the reasoning and physical qualities involved with them. In the second 1-hour class, Charles demonstrates how to use the colored pencils to achieve the results that he produces with the pencils. That demonstration is a step-by-step process of material handling.

Here are graphics that show the kind of work these pencils can do.

This is not a drawing class, but a specific workshop on how to use the colored pencils to achieve painterly results in your drawings or coloring.

This workshop will run from 11:30-1:30 on Saturday in the Galleria behind the Art Show. It is offered to Boskone members age 13 and up, and is limited to 20 people. This workshop costs $20, which is paid to Charles at the start of the first class.

Materials provided for individual use during the workshop include:

  • Prismacolor Premiere colored pencils
  • Alcohol-based colored markers
  • Bristol paper
  • Workshop syllabus and reference sheet
  • Drawing board

Students will keep the syllabus, reference sheet, and their work on the Bristol paper.

There will also be shared equipment including pencil sharpeners, erasers, pencil extenders. Advanced technique equipment like eraser guides and etching/burnishing tools will be demonstrated.
